Drawings: Forty Years Later

2008

pencil on paper

6.5 x 8 inches

This is a drawing after 'Stranger at Dawn'. At some point I realized that I had reversed the light source; hence, the title (truthfully, a lot more can happen in forty years then just a setting sun).

2008: High Winds

2008

Acrylic on linen

31 x 25 inches

After two drawings in 2007, this is the first painting I have done with the dodo bird.

What drew me to the dodo image is that not only is it a stand in for human consumption and disregard for planet and fellow man; but it also represents exploration, colonialism, curiosity, and an icon for what could, or should, of been.

2008: The Magnificent Peril

2008

Acrylic on linen

60 x 50 inches

I wanted this painting to fell like the last song on a Tom Waits album. Specifically, Come On Up To The House off of Mule Variations.

Come On Up To The House

(Chorus)

There's nothing in the world
That you can do
You got to come on up to the house
and you been whipped by the forces
That are inside you
Come on up to the house
Well you're high on top
of your mountain of woe
Come on up to the house
Well you know you should surrender
But you can't let go
You got to come on up to the house
